Remedy announced today that it is partnering with Annapurna Interactive, both on the development of its upcoming title Control 2 and on taking Control and its sibling franchise, Alan Wake, to the world of film and television. According to the developer, Annapurna will co-finance Control 2, which will allow Remedy to make it “exactly the game we want it to be.”
Remedy purchased the rights to the original Control from former partner 505 Games earlier this year, giving it full rights to the franchise. At the time, the company also informed its investors at the time that it was considering partners for Control 2. It appears that partner is Annapurna, which is known for publishing indie titles.
Mikael Kasurinen, creative director, and Juha Vainio, executive producer of the Control franchise, said in a joint statement, “Annapurna’s creative values align perfectly with ours, making them an inspiring partner for the journey ahead. We at Remedy have been working on Control 2 for a while already, it’s looking amazing, and we feel Annapurna is the perfect partner to work with as the game development is moving forward towards production and eventually across the finish line.”
Remedy CEO Tero Virtala added that the time was right to expand its franchises to a global audience. “In Annapurna, we have found an outstanding partner who shares our ambition and passion for immersive storytelling. We are excited to see them bring the universes and characters we have created to life in new mediums, thanks to this unique deal.”
