Pokémon Go adds Dynamax Battles in upcoming Max Out season

Niantic revealed more about the upcoming season of Pokémon Go this week. Called “Max Out,” the new season brings Dynamax Pokémon to the game, the supersized creatures that debuted in Pokémon Sword & Shield. They can be fought in Max Battles and caught, naturally. Also joining the mobile game this season are Galar Pokémon, including starters Sobble, Grookey and Scorbunny. The new season begins on September 3 and runs through December 3.

According to Niantic, players can access Max Battles through Power Spots. Unlike the rest of the season, Max Battles roll out on September 10, with the first ones available through September 15. The first Dynamaxed Pokémon include Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Skwovet and Wooloo, as well as their evolutions and shiny forms. Players can catch them during the encounters and then Dynamax them during Max Battles.

The new Galar Pokémon joining the roster include Grookey, Thwackey, Rillaboom, Scorbunny, Raboot, Cinderace, Sobble, Drizzile, Inteleon, Dreepy, Drakloak and Dragapult. Players can choose one of the starters for a Special Research story with branching paths. Niantic is also holding several raids during the Max Out season.

Go Battle League also begins again with the new season, featuring eleven cups for players to participate in. These include Galar Cups strictly for Sword & Shield Pokémon, the Catch Cup for Pokémon caught during the Max Out season and two Halloween Cups for Poison, Bug, Ghost, Dark and Fairy-type Pokémon.
